What are the most common wedding gown alterations?

Almost all gowns need shortening and bustling. Many also need tailoring in the bodice to refine the fit, including taking in the sides and cup size adjustments to prevent gaping.

Do you work with Heirloom gowns?

Yes! We love working on gowns that have been passed down in a family. It's amazing what can be done to fit and update a heritage or vintage gown.

How much do alterations cost?

The charges depend on what alterations need to be done to the gown to make it fit perfectly. Variables to consider are: how well does the gown fit to begin with? What fabric is the gown made of, and how many layers need to be altered? What kinds of bead-work and embellishments are on the dress, that may need to be removed and or re-positioned to fit the gown correctly?

Generally, bridal gown alterations cost between $250 and $600, but we need to see you in your dress to give you a firm estimate. You will leave your first fitting with a good idea of what to expect.

What do I need to bring to my first fitting?

You will need to have your shoes or height equivalent shoes to establish your hemline. If you plan to wear a bra and or body shaping foundation garments bring those along. If you are unsure about these things don't worry, we can discuss various strategies for bust support in a gown with a low back.

Are you able to make style changes to my dress?

Yes. We frequently add or remove sleeves, raise or lower the neckline, do a modesty build up, replace a zippered back with a lace up closure, shorten or remove the train or add a sash or other waistline embellishment. Please ask about changes at your first fitting and bring along pictures that show what you have in mind. If you know you want to make changes to a special ordered gown discuss this with the bridal salon at the time you place your order so we have matching fabric to work with.

How many fittings will I need?

We usually do two fittings and a try-on but you may need more if the gown requires more extensive alterations (sizing up or down two sizes, for example) or we are making major style changes.

Do you make custom gowns?

Yes. We have made many custom gowns for brides, mothers, bridesmaids and other special occasion gowns. As a general rule you will need to schedule six to eight months ahead of your date. If you can't find what you are looking for in a salon custom may be a great option for you.
